I love "movement," but I am very slow to anything that might be called "exercise." My diagnosis of MS had left me with very weak legs and an inability to balance very well.  My significant weight loss also created in me a desire to move more, but I had no idea how to find the right way to combine my needs. Our Weight Watchers lecturer had taken classes with Mary, and he passionately recommended her.

Oh, he was right! I began with individual lessons. Mary was certainly patient and understood my fears and needs. She has adapted whatever exercises I do to how I personally can do them. She monitors my (frequent) bouts with fatigue, and she makes sure I have water... she is vigilant and sympathetic.

Now I have brought a friend to take the class at the same time--and although she does not have the same body issues I do, she, too, is finding that her strength is returning, and flexibility is growing.

Maybe there are other Pilates instructors who could give me the same exercises. Maybe there are others who would remember to make me drink water between repetitions. Maybe there are other Pilates instructors who would do the MS Walk with my team on her only day off, but I DON'T THINK SO!

Mary Fugle has not only given me the exercises I need to help change what my body can do, she continues to give me a different perspective on what I WANT to do. She is the right person to help both the body and the mentality!"

Stretch classes, dance classes etc. We were looking for something different. Between the two of us we are members of both Reebok and Equinox but somehow had not gotten into a pilates class. When I met Mary Fugle I didn't even know exactly what pilates was. My mom and I did the first session with Mary and loved it. It is so convenient, done in my apartment, with just 2 towels used as mats and the pilates rings that Mary brought with her. We were hooked after the first session. We signed up for twice a week, semi-private sessions, and by week 3 we increased it to 3 times per week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. Mary is always on time and prepared with a new surprise exercise or pilates toy. She is upbeat and fun during the workout which helps to make the hour go by so quickly. But the best part is that the results are as quick. After just a few weeks we can both see more definition in our arms, legs and especially the hardest part, our stomachs! We are both able to do more sit-ups and crunches then after all the years of classes at the gym. I am even doing 60 push-ups, some with one leg on top of the other! It is so convenient to have Mary come to the apartment. It cuts down on the time it takes to get dressed and travel to the and from the gym. Since I work from home, I can easily go right back to the computer and telephone without any down time. You do not need a lot of space. Just a cool CD (sometimes Mary supplies a new one) and 2 towels. No commute to the gym, no locker room stuff etc. Mary has never cancelled or postponed a session. She is so reliable and she is a great motivator! My mom and I are 26 years apart and we are able to workout with a personal trainer doing this together. That shows how amazing pilates is (and what good shape my mom is in!) After 4 months with Mary we are both stronger, firmer and more toned than we ever expected. It has given me more endurance while biking or spinning and my tennis game has improved. I cannot recommend more highly our experience with Mary Fugle of Wise Women's Workouts!
